Looking at more cinematographers that caught my attention such as Emmanuel Lubezki
His career started on Mexican productions in his home country, later on he started to collaborate with Alfonso Cuaron on six of his productions. He has also managed to win three Academy Awards for Best cinematography for his work on Gravity, Birdman and The Revenant while also becoming one of the first cinematographers to win the award three times in a row.
When it comes to his style of lighting, he likes to use soft light which creates shadow-less light. Additionally he lights his subjects front on which means having the light in front of the subject and another one of his style is to also uses side-light right down the middle of the subjects faces.
Another cinematographer who caught my attention was Robert Richardson
He has worked on such films as:
JFK
Kill Bill: Volume 1
Kill Bill: Volume 2
The Aviator
Inglorious Basterds
Shutter Island
Hugo
Django Unchained
The Hateful Eight
Throughout his career he has worked with Marin Scorsese, Quinton Tarantino and Oliver Stone. He has won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography three times for JFK, The Aviator and Hugo.
When it comes to his style he likes to have a light source high up pointed down so it creates a rim light and manages to fill the light on the actors face. When comes to his philosophy he will light a scene based off his own motivations instead of mood and story.
