Colour Temperature is important when it comes to film because it affects whatever film your are making will look like. Colour Temperature is measured in Kelvins which is the name of the person who discovered the system. For example colours like red and amber will have lower temperatures than colours like blue. So that means the higher the Kelvin number the cooler the colour will be.

Our eyes adjust to the colors of light, but the camera does not have that capability without some assistance. That's why gels, white balance and filters are used to get the film or video camera to see what the human eye sees.
