Rule Of Thirds

Now one aspect of film making that is important is the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds is when you take a subject and have a three by three box and trying to ft that subject on the intersecting points shown by the circles on the image below:

Now as a camera operator for Inheritance, one of my jobs when filming is to have the rule o thirds in mind when composing the shot for the director as that adds more if what i'm filming fits the rule.

Now the first image I will look at is this;

As you can see I have added in the rule of thirds grid and you can see that the bandit on the left does not match fit on the rule of thirds line centrally, instead the bandit could be placed on the right hand side line like this:

If the bandit was in the position of he orange figure walking down from the archway then that would look a better shot.

Now looking at the next shot:

As you can see I have added in the rule of thirds grid and you can see that the her is not centered on the left line and if centered just a bit so the hero is on that line it would improve the shot:

Looking back at the footage we shot I believe in my opinion a shot that fit the rule of thirds:

You have one bandit in the foreground on the left line and the other bandit in the background on the right line which makes the shot interesting
