In composing the frame the DOP is actively making choices about what is included in the image in terms of stylistic and narrative conventions. Each shot conveys information to the audience, which exacts an intended reaction.Barnwell, Jane. The Fundamentals of Film-Making. P. 133

Looking at the above image which I think fits this subject very well. First of all you have the character of Julie in focus with the background out of focus. This was done to focus on the main part of Julie's interview about John while he enters in the kitchen and starts to go through the cupboards. She is positioned on the right of screen on one of the thirds and when John enters he is on the other side of the thirds. Later on when she goes into the kitchen it pull focuses to both of them as Julie finds out what John has hidden and leaves the room.
