One of the important factors of cinematography is lighting, this is one skill that I want to try and get better at because in previous projects and looking at what other cinematographers have done in the same projects I have done I feel I need to improve and that is why it is one of the main focuses of my Minor Project along with camera.
This video is really helpful as it gives a basic understanding of three point lighting which will be helpful for my project. It also includes images of how they change the lighting each time which is the inspiration for what I hope to do when I show each version of the scene I'm going to do then show an image of what I did to achieve it.
One of the main points that is brought up to get a good film noir look is to have strong a key light which is the most dominant of the lights in a three-point lighting setup. The other strong light should be the back light which makes the subject standout from the background of a scene they are in. The fill light should be less dominant then the others but adds to overall look.
Hard light (from a small and intense light source) creates crisp, clear images with bold and clearly defined shadows. Soft light (from a large and diffuse source) creates diffused, softer images with less contrast between light and shade
