Today me and the director planned to do a lighting test for the campfire scenes. Now one of the other cinematographers suggested to use two lights with a blue and orange gel on each light. The image below shows his version of the test which has the exact look we want
Here is a shot that Liam (original cinematographer) did and has now give me as a visual reference for the test.
We used a cool light with a blue gel on it so it looked like the moonlight
We used a red head with an orange gel on it to look like the campfire
This is a photo of what it would have looked like.
Now once we had the setup their were some issues that came up. The first was one red head light had it's bulb blown when we plugged it in. Luckily we had two more. Then we put the orange gel onto the one of the other ed heads, plugged it it and were ready but smoke appeared, we then used the final red head but the same thing happened. We realized the gel was causing this as it was close to the light. The director then decided that this method was not possible to do.
I really loved reading your blog. It was very well authored and easy to understand. Unlike other blogs I have read which are really not that good. Thanks alot!
