Digital Production – Smoke Machine Tests

On Friday we decided to test the smoke machine to potentially use it for the show. Our goal was to try and hide the sound that the machine makes from time to time when turned on.

The first test was to have the smoke machine in the gallery with pipes sending the smoke into the studio, however the heat from the smoke machine melted the gaffa-tape that held the pipes to the smoke machine. The sound effect could also be heard by the director for part 2 who was helping with the tests and recorded every test.

The second test had no smoke come in to the studio as the director for part 2 decided to hold the pipping slightly away from the ring of the smoke machine which caused the gallery to become filled with smoke.

Test three  failed as when we tried to pay a sound effect over the sound of the machine the effect didn't work properly and the microphones weren't turned on in the studio (my fault for that)

Finally test four was better as the right amount of smoke came through to the studio and the sound effect didn't work again

The director for part 2 had the idea to use the smoke machine during a VT break. This will be tested with the actors on Monday

After the tests had finished I went to fix the sound effects to make sure they worked with the help of the director for the first part. To do this the sound effects are being played from the streaming software (image below). So for example if we get the happy ending when it comes back from VT the sound effect will play for a certain time.

Then to increase the volume of the sound effect I went to effect and amplify

Then I turned up the amplification of the sound
