Culturaton - enabling culture making to take place

Acculturation - assimilate culture traits of another group

Transculturation - merge and converge of cultures

Trans-nationalism - reaching national borders with culture

Globalization - integration of economics, industrialization, markets, culture and policy  making around the world, how these have been integrated because of trade communication  

Global Village - Marshal McLuhan - 1964 - technology reducing size of global into a village

Enhanced world scientifically, culturally and economically - good about globalization

Perpetuating inequality in world and not reducing it - bad about globalization

History

Discovery of America in 1492 accelerated globalization 

Argued it began in 19th C with drops in transport costs and prices in Europe and Asia to converge

1860-1914 - flow of goods accelerated, 60 million people left Europe for North America, steamships and telegraph systems bridged gaps in distance

1945-1971 - USA lading economy, shipping containers came about

Enculturation - teaching norms and values of culture to others 

Reverseculturation - Using what culture has taught people

Transculturation - Enslavement, Compromise, Adjustment, Self Assertive, Intergration
