Cultural Relativism:

  • Values and our cultural are true and valid in own cultural context
Individuality and self expression is defined by the fundamental need for self determination and authority of the creative process but find itself at the same time within a social discourse

Different theoretical perspectives provide different insights and help to navigate different landscape - landscape determines what we can and can't do

Shape of culture is changing characteristics change through different contexts, values and attitudes

Competing paradigms account for the variety of expression in us all. Both establish and break rules

Genre, style, message, medium process and location are one set paradigm

"Unity in variety"

The degree to which cultural making seeks free expression or is based on shared values of specific groups or exists according to rules

Societies and cultures vary and often stages of cultural evolution  co-exist with one society where parts remain marginalized by reliance on farming, extremity's or both. More adaptive practice reflect changes need can be evident

Cultural paradigms within relative perspective can form new hybrids that are valid, authentic and new

Cultures, societies can clash with different values and are changed by opposing/conflicting paradigms
