Week 1
Belbin Self Perception Inventory
Today we were given our live brief. To decide groups for the project Di did something very different. We filled in a sheet called the Belbin Self Perception Inventory which was a type of questionnaire where you answered the questions then added up the scores. Turns out I am a team worker which means the obvious.
Three other people in our group who got complete finishers were the head of the three teams. The team I am in consists of
Chris Renney
Liam Robson
Shaun West
Bradley Sampson

Week 2
The client for our live project is a music band called Lost State Of Dance . The want three music videos for three of their songs. Their style of music has an 80's feel and the music is very good. Dan one of the members of the band came to us and said they are open to anything as long as it is fun and enjoyable.
They gave us ideas of music videos they enjoy. Some of the ones we watched were very different to the feel they wanted and we were all very confused Our group went through a few ideas. We decided to go for a darker theme for our idea.
Research
We looked into different aspects of the 80's with Di but after we finished researching Di needed us to look further into the 80's in different aspects such as design, literature and politics. Our group were given the design aspect.
The Pitch
We pitched our ideas for the three music videos to Dan, Di and Mike.
Live Project - Hot City Nights
Our client decided what ideas were getting put forward for the music videos. Our main idea of the worker and the robot girl got put forward but instead of a strip club it would be an arcade instead because it would fit more to there music.
We then had a production meeting in which we assigned roles:
Chris - Producer
Brad - Director
Liam - Camera
Shaun - Lighting/Sound
Me - Editor
We now have to look for an arcade which should be easy to find and get a hold of. We are also looking into a room where the robot could be activated. Costume will be needed, something 80's looking.
Lighting Test - Eyes
One of the subtle ways we were going to show the main female lead being a robot was using a way that Blade Runner did by having the eyes light up

So the group looked into a way that we could achieve this look
This is what we achieved by using an led light and torches to shine the light at a mirror aimed at my face since I was the model for his test.
We also got a recce of the room we will use for a sort of charging station for the robot girl:

Filming - Mannequin Room
We managed to start filming with our first shoot being in the mannequin room as we call it. We got everything we needed from this location with our actor Ryan and actress Jess who are both in all the groups videos.
I have managed to use the split screen technique to have the four members of the band at the beginning of the video. The way to do this is have a video selected on the time line click tools and select effects pallete and and effects editor open then add the Picture - Picture on to the clip this means you can have multiple videos on one screen as I have done (image bellow) by resizing them.
The split screen has been replaced as I used it as a test to see if it would work but it didn't go through to the final piece.
Filming - arcade
The Edit
Back on to the edit me and the director Brad went through the arcade scenes and managed to fill most of the gaps on the timeline in although we have one more day to complete the edit which should happen. One new technique I have learned is how to add some effects such as bad tv effects and black and white to some of the clips that are being used. I have even learned how to use colour correction on Avid.

We pitched our ideas for the three music videos to Dan, Di and Mike.
- Song 1: A worker in a strip club falls in love with a robot girl who is working there and manages to get her out and they run off together.
- Song 2: The worker is drinking in a bar but starts imagining him and the robot girl together and he sees them in forest getting married but he wakes up in bed and sees a dress n the floor. This leaves him thinking if it was true or not.
- Song 3: It has been a while and the worker and girl are in a arcade and the robot girl is winning all the games and she realizes she can do anything without a master and decides to leave the worker
Our client decided what ideas were getting put forward for the music videos. Our main idea of the worker and the robot girl got put forward but instead of a strip club it would be an arcade instead because it would fit more to there music.

Filming - Mannequin Room
We managed to start filming with our first shoot being in the mannequin room as we call it. We got everything we needed from this location with our actor Ryan and actress Jess who are both in all the groups videos.
This is the setup for the lighting in most of our shots (above image). We were going to use both a red and blue light tint but we decided to go for red because we felt it gave the room a more sinister vibe (image bellow)
There us one shot in the film the director wanted that was to have the robot girl on the floor to look like she was powered down so we figured out the way t do this was to balance Shaun's camera on one of the tripod legs so it would point upwards. (image bellow)
For this day I had to take over as camera op because Liam one of our other team members was ill and was happy to fill in

Filming - The Band
Later on that day we went down to a place known as The Studio and managed to film all the scenes with the band that we needed
This is the stage the band were playing on (image bellow)
The lighting setup tat we went for for our shoot continued using the red tint
While me and Brad filmed the band from the front of the stage, Shaun got up onto the stage so we could get extra shots f the band on the stage such as on the drummer
Editing research
Since I am the editor of the project. I have to look at different editing effects that could go into the edit.

These are colour bars that would appear
at the beginning of the video so I could use
this at the beginning.
This is static which I could put during the video while it is going on to give it an 80’s feel.
These are the play button which could be used after the colour bar before the video stats and the time-code could run throughout the video.
Editing update
I have started to edit the advert and laced everything from our previous shoots in the mannequin room and with the band onto the timeline. I have also managed to learn a new technique thanks to Jamie who helped me.
The split screen has been replaced as I used it as a test to see if it would work but it didn't go through to the final piece.
Filming - arcade
We arrived at the arcade at Seaton Carew and split into three groups. The first group filmed our female actresses scenes the second group filmed our male actors scenes and the third group filmed cutaways for the advert. We managed to get all of the scenes completed and will now move onto the edit.
On After Effects the way to add effects onto a video goes like this:
- Open a new sequence on Avid containing the clip you want to use
- Export the clip
- Open the software with exported clip
- Then to add the effects that I have used you look for BAD TV 2 and Black and White
- Then you render the clip and click Losless to change the format for the video
- Put the new video with the effects into a bin in Avid and you can use the new clip
The editing process has now been completed and is now handed in and now we are waiting for the client to give their feedback.
